In a decisive move to uphold academic integrity and discipline, Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, has taken rigorous measures against 14 individuals, comprising academic and non-academic staff, as well as students, for various forms of misconduct.
The university administration has shown no tolerance for unethical behavior, with five lecturers implicated in offenses that include extorting money from successful students.
Shockingly, one lecturer was found guilty of orchestrating a scheme to extort funds from students by falsely claiming they had failed his courses.
In another case, a lecturer from the Department of History and International Relations faced dismissal for falsifying results and grades to benefit a student.
Meanwhile, three educators in the Faculty of Education have been suspended pending further investigation for accepting money from students in exchange for unearned grades.
The university’s firm stance on misconduct extends to the implicated students, among them a priest, who were accused of aiding and abetting examination malpractice after allegedly accepting bribes from their peers.
Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, the Special Adviser for Public Relations and Special Duties, announced these actions in a press release on Sunday, emphasizing that they were carried out in accordance with panel recommendations.
The penalties for those found guilty vary, from suspensions to outright dismissal.
Among the individuals facing consequences are a Principal Executive Officer and a Senior Executive Officer, both suspended for specific infractions related to their roles within the university.
