Five men have been remanded in custody by the Sabo Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly killing a police officer in the state.
The defendants, identified as Shakiru Shittu 48,Kadir Shonoki 38, Shadiku Adeola 43, TaofeekA Aluko (38), and Adekunle Onasanya 37, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Peter Nwaka,who did not take the pleas of the defendants ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice..
Nwaka adjourned the case until May 31 for mention.
The prosecutor, Friday, said that the defendants killed one Mathew Aniaguru, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who was on official duty.
Aniaguru, who was a Divisional Police Officer at Imota, received a distress call from one ASP Adamu Audu, that they were being attacked by some unknown gunmen at Emuren Junction.
Friday further stated that the defendants shot and killed the officer and collected his AK 47 rifle with ten rounds ammunition.
He said that the police later raided and arrested the defendants.
“During interrogation, some of the defendants made ‘confessional statements”.
The prosecutor urged the court to give the police 30 days to carry out further investigation.
