The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA Nigeria, Kogi State Branch, has expressed deep concerns and outrage over the recent spate of kidnappings of women in Kogi State, particularly in the state capital, Lokoja.

A statement signed by the Kogi State Chairperson of FIDA, Lilian Ajuma Okolo on Monday, observed that in the past few months, there have been numerous reports of women being abducted and held for ransom; causing fear and insecurity among the residents.

“This heinous act is not only a violation of the rights and dignity of women but also a clear indication of the deteriorating security situation in the state.

“FIDA Nigeria, Kogi State Branch, strongly condemns these barbaric acts and calls on the state government and security agencies to intensify their efforts towards protecting the citizens, women in particular”.

The statement urged the relevant authorities to take swift and decisive action to bring the perpetrators of the criminal acts to book and ensure that justice is served.

The statement said “We also call on the residents of Kogi State to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. It is only through collective action and cooperation that we can put an end to the menace of kidnapping and ensure the safety and security of all residents, especially women and children”.

Okolo reiterated that FIDA Nigeria, Kogi State Branch, remains committed to advocating for the rights of women and promoting gender equality in society, adding that, they will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that women can live their lives free from fear and violence.
