Regionalism: I’m Not Against South West Interest – Senator Bamidele

The Senate Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has stated that there is no bill before the Senate, nor any memorandum to debate regarding regionalism, dismissing the news claiming he is against Yoruba interests as fake and unfounded.

Senator Bamidele clarified that the talk of him being opposed to regionalism is baseless, noting that no paper has been presented for debate on the matter in the National Assembly.

“Whether anyone is in support of or against regionalism is a debate that will take place when the Senate has a bill in front of them to discuss,” he said.

He further mentioned that he recently led all 18 senators representing the South West in working hard for the Senate to pass the South West Development Commission bill.

Senator Bamidele debunked the fake news in Ado-Ekiti during the distribution of 5,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers and various farmers’ associations in Ekiti Central Senatorial District, which includes Ado-Ekiti, Efon, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ekiti West, and Ijero-Ekiti.

The Senate Leader urged people to be understanding of the challenges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is addressing, stating that these issues did not begin today but were caused by many years of misgovernance and mismanagement of the country’s resources.

“But today, we have a government that is not pretending about how terrible things are. What is important is not the situation we have found ourselves in, but what is being done to take us out of it.”

“All efforts are being made to ensure our country improves. The President is working hard to make life more meaningful for the citizens.”

He cautioned the beneficiaries not to sell the fertilizers given to them or allow them to fall into the wrong hands, adding that they should be used for farming and not for any harmful purposes.
