Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group has appointed Naim Kassem as its new leader following the death of Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed last month in an Israeli airstrike.
Kassem, who served as Nasrallah’s longtime deputy, assumed leadership after Nasrallah’s death and was officially appointed on Tuesday.
Since the war began on October 7, 2023, following an attack by Hamas militants that killed approximately 1,200 people in Israel, over 43,000 Palestinians are reported to have died.
Also, 90 percent of Gaza’s population is estimated to have been displaced, according to local authorities.
