The Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Ogun State Branch, has formally decorated the Olowu of Owu kingdom, Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola, as a Patron of the society.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the event, held on Tuesday, at the monarch’s palace in Abeokuta was in recognition of his unwavering commitment to fostering peace within the Owu Kingdom and Ogun State at large.
The brief but memorable ceremony was presided over by the Chairperson of SPSP Ogun State, Simiat Abaru, with the support of Mr. Bennerd Olusanya, the Director of the Conflict Resolution Department at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and a prominent member of the society.
Other dignitaries present included Mrs. Aminat Balogun, the Treasurer of the society, Mrs. Fayokemi Funso-Otulana, the Secretary, and notable chiefs of the Owu Kingdom.
In her address, Abaru highlighted that the selection of Oba Matemilola as a Patron was rooted in his exemplary track record in community engagement and his dedication to promoting alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms within his domain.
The chairperson praised his efforts in establishing peace frameworks and fostering collaborations with peace practitioners across the state.
Responding to the honour, Oba Matemilola expressed profound gratitude to the society for the recognition, commending its role in promoting peace and supporting conflict resolution initiatives.
He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the goals of SPSP, pledging to strengthen the synergy between the society and the Owu Kingdom’s ADR Centre.
“I deeply appreciate this recognition. It motivates us to continue fostering a peaceful environment within the Owu Kingdom and beyond.
“I urge SPSP to sustain its impactful work and collaborate with us in our ongoing peace-building efforts,” the monarch said.
The event, though concise, was lauded as a significant milestone in the society’s history.
PLATFORM TIMES further reports that the event not only solidified Oba Matemilola’s position as a key figure in peace advocacy but also underscored SPSP’s dedication to partnering with influential community leaders to uphold harmony in Ogun State.
