Tragedy struck at a festive event held at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, as a stampede claimed the lives of 35 children, leaving the city in mourning.

The horrifying incident occurred on Wednesday during a funfair promoted by Agidigbo FM, a popular Ibadan-based radio station.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the founder and chairman of Agidigbo FM, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital after reportedly collapsing from the shock.

Sources revealed that Hamzat, a well-known broadcaster and advocate for social causes, slumped and became unconscious upon learning of the stampede’s devastating toll.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a close associate confirmed that Hamzat remains hospitalized as of Thursday.

“The chairman, Agidigbo FM, is currently unconscious in an undisclosed hospital. He could not handle the shock,” the source disclosed.

The ill-fated event, widely publicized through Agidigbo FM, was meant to be a festive gathering but turned into a nightmare when chaos erupted, leading to the tragic loss of young lives.

As the city grapples with the enormity of the tragedy, questions are being raised about the organization and safety measures at the event.

Meanwhile, the condition of Hamzat, who is known for his community-driven initiatives, has further deepened public concern.

Efforts to reach Agidigbo FM for an official statement have so far been unsuccessful, as the station’s representatives are yet to comment on the incident.

The Ibadan community has been plunged into grief, with many residents calling for an urgent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stampede to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.
