The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has re-elected Titlayo Akibu as its Ogun State Chairman and Tiwalade Akingbade as Secretary for a second term of five years.

The election, held at the RTEAN Secretariat on Monday, was overseen by national president Musa Maitakobi and the national executive council.

In his post-inauguration speech, President Musa Maitakobi highlighted RTEAN’s commitment to enhancing road safety through collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The partnership aims to establish a specialized driving training school in Ogun State, responding to the FRSC’s initiative to mitigate road accidents by improving driver competence.

“We are already committed to this partnership with the FRSC,” stated Maitakobi, affirming RTEAN’s proactive stance towards driver training and safety measures.

He further pledged to liaise with Ogun State authorities to facilitate cooperation with the FRSC on the establishment of the training school.

Addressing RTEAN members, Maitakobi urged them to uphold professionalism and eliminate behaviors associated with hooliganism and illegal activities, differentiating RTEAN from other transport unions like the NURTW.

He emphasized RTEAN’s role as vehicle owners rather than drivers, advocating for responsible vehicle management practices among members.

Secretary Tiwalade Akingbade commended Chairman Titlayo Akibu’s performance during his first term, attributing his re-election to the positive impact witnessed across RTEAN’s operations in Ogun State.

Akingbade underscored the importance of continuity in consolidating the gains made under Akibu’s leadership, citing improvements in park management and operational standards as key achievements.

“In his second term, Chairman Akibu aims to build upon these successes,” Akingbade affirmed, urging RTEAN members to support the newly inaugurated executives in upholding union rules and regulations.

He emphasized the accessibility of RTEAN’s state office for addressing member grievances and promoting transparency within the organization.
