The Chief Imam of the Federal Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Alhaji Imam Shafi Olakunle Omojole, has emphasized the necessity of purifying the human soul for success in both this world and the hereafter.
He made this call while delivering a lecture at the 2nd Ramadan Lecture and Iftar Programme organized by the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service Muslim Community on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Speaking on the topic, “Understanding Human Soul, Nature, Attributes, Types, Purification, Means and Salvation,” Imam Omojole stressed that every individual is composed of both spiritual and physical elements—the spirit from Allah and the body from clay.
This dual nature, he explained, results in conflicting instincts: one inclined towards righteousness and the other towards evil.
“The Creator has granted man the freedom of choice. If he nurtures and develops his righteous instincts, he will attain success in both this life and the hereafter.
However, if he follows the path of evil, he will face ruin,” the cleric said.
He urged Muslims to purify their souls by instilling the fear of Allah, resisting evil desires, constantly remembering death, engaging in self-evaluation, repenting sincerely, and seeking divine assistance in overcoming negative inclinations.
The event, which took place in Abeokuta, had the Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Ogun State, served as the Chairman.
Also in attendance were notable personalities including Alhaji Abdul Akeem Tunji Kalejaye, a former Director of Administration and Supplies in the Ogun State Civil Service, and the Baba Adinni of Imo Land.
Other directors of the agency present were Alhaji Akinfenwa Waheed Adejare (Director, Information Technology), Alhaja Oluyomi Dawodu (Director, Other Taxes, and Chairman, Planning Committee), and Mr. Ridwan Kolade (Head, Internal Audit).
The Ramadan lecture and Iftar programme which was bankrolled by the Muslim community of the service provided an avenue for spiritual enlightenment and reflection as attendees were encouraged to embrace righteousness and strengthen their faith through self-discipline and devotion.
