Today, Friday, June 6, 2025, marks six months since Arc. Dr. ‘Koye Jolaoso assumed office as the 10th Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta. In this short span, his administration has recorded transformational strides that are visible across all spheres of the institution’s operations.
Under his leadership, the Management has restored confidence, strengthened governance structures, enhanced academic standards, improved financial management, and prioritized staff welfare.
Dr. Jolaoso’s inclusive leadership style has fostered an atmosphere of peace, stability, mutual respect, and collective purpose among the workforce.
Major Highlights of Achievements:
1. Organization of the 15th Combined Convocation Ceremony
The 15th Combined Convocation Ceremony has been scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 24th June, 2025. The event will include a convocation lecture, award of National and Higher National Diplomas to deserving graduands from the 2015/2016 to 2023/2024 academic sessions, and conferment of Fellowship Honours. Other related activities will hold between June 19 and 29, 2025.
2. Regular Salary Payments
In a bid to reinforce trust and boost staff morale, the Management has ensured timely and consistent salary payments. This has contributed to a highly motivated and productive workforce. Staff now carry out their duties with enthusiasm, dedication, and a renewed sense of purpose.
3. Approval and Implementation of 25%/35% Salary Increase
In a demonstration of empathy and commitment to staff welfare, the Management approved and commenced payment of the long-awaited 25% and 35% salary increase arrears effective April, 2025.
4. Fast-Tracked Promotion and Appointment Exercises
The long-overdue backlog of staff promotions and appointments is being addressed. This process is ongoing, and letters of appointment and promotion are released accordingly as part of the administration’s effort to enhance the reward system for excellence and dedication.
5. Commencement of Check-Off Dues Payment
Responding to the demands of staff unions and reinforcing the administration’s commitment to staff welfare, the Management has resumed the payment of check-off dues.
Infrastructure, Capacity Building and Developmental Projects:
6. Allocation of TETFund Special High Impact Project Intervention
For the first time in MAPOLY’s history, the institution has secured the allocation of a Special High Impact Project Intervention from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
7. 2025 TETFund Annual Intervention Allocation
MAPOLY has also received the 2025 annual intervention allocation from TETFund for physical infrastructure and capacity building. Management has therefore commenced the process of generating a proposal to be forwarded to TETFund prior to implementation. Also, efforts are ongoing to ensure that staff-related requests previously considered favourably by the relevant committee are followed through. Moreover, Management is actively engaging with TETFund to fast-track the completion of pending, abandoned, and uncompleted projects.
8. Restoration of Public Power Supply
Through strategic collaboration with IBEDC and provision of essential logistics, public power supply has been restored to the Polytechnic campus. This has significantly improved institutional operations and, by extension, water supply.
9. Revival of the Students’ Hostel Project
Beyond the MAPOLY Alumni Association that has expressed interest in redeveloping the existing long-abandoned student hostel, other prospective investors have shown interest in constructing new hostels under a BOT initiative thus solving accommodation challenges.
Academic and Student Affairs:
10. Improved Student Relationship
Management has established a cordial and responsive relationship with the student body, ensuring a conducive learning environment and enhanced academic experience.
11. Seamless Conduct of First Semester Examination (2024/2025)
In line with the approved academic calendar, the first semester examination for the 2024/2025 session commenced smoothly on Monday, May 19, 2025, and is expected to end on Saturday 14 June, 2025.
12. NELFUND Loan Disbursement
All eligible MAPOLY students who applied for financial aid under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) have had their applications successfully processed, an initiative aimed at reducing financial burdens and promoting access to education.
Engagement and Governance:
13. *Consultative Engagement with Staff
This administration has embraced a culture of sustainable and continuous engagement with Heads of Departments, Directors, Unit Heads, and Union Leaders. This serves as a feedback mechanism aimed at institutional development and informed policy direction. This helps to:
Review progress made;
Discuss strategic directions;
Address pressing issues.
14. Support for Retiree Forum
Recognizing the value of institutional memory, the Retiree Forum is being supported, knowing that it is a platform to maintain relationships with former staff and draw from their wealth of experience for institutional advancement.
15. Alumni Relations
As a proud and distinguished alumnus, Arc. Dr. Jolaoso has continually strengthened alumni engagement. He was recently inducted into the Committee of Distinguished Alumni (CODA) during the National Convention of the Alumni Association, where Alhaji Ayinde Soaga was elected as National President.
Institutional Sustainability:
16. Financial Prudence and Maintenance Culture
The administration has adopted a prudent financial management approach. This includes the plugging of financial leakages, and emphasis on maintenance and repair of ICT and office equipment rather than costly replacements.
17. Commissioning of the TETFund Project
All plans have been finalized for the commissioning of the School of Environmental Studies building. The architectural design of the project was conceptualized under the supervision of the Arc Dr ‘Koye Jolaoso, a renowned Architect. Construction of the project commenced in 2019, with funding support from TETFund.
The commissioning ceremony will be performed by none other than His Excellency, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON, the Executive Governor of Ogun State. The event is scheduled to take place on the convocation day, Tuesday, 24th June, 2025.
18. Full Operationalization of MAPOLY Radio
Following the approval granted by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in February, 2025 for full broadcast operations, MAPOLY Campus Radio is now fully operational. The station is broadcasting actively, much to the admiration and benefit of the Polytechnic community and the general public.
In just six months, Arc. Dr. ‘Koye Jolaoso’s administration has demonstrated purposeful leadership, visionary planning, and inclusive governance. His investor-driven mission is not only attracting developmental partnerships but also redefining the trajectory of this 46-year-old institution. With these remarkable milestones, the future of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic is undoubtedly bright, dynamic, and filled with immense opportunities for growth and excellence
