Former Ogun State Governor and serving Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has hailed the enduring reign of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, describing the monarch as a towering symbol of royal excellence and visionary leadership in Nigeria.

In a message of tribute and solidarity obtained by PLATFORM TIMES on Saturday, Senator Daniel, who also bears the traditional title of Otunba Obalofin of Ijebuland, praised the Awujale’s over six-decade reign, crediting it for transforming Ijebuland into a bastion of peace, cultural pride, and progressive development.

“Your Imperial Majesty’s leadership has been nothing short of remarkable,” Daniel wrote. “Your throne has stood as a beacon of wisdom, stability, and strength—not only to the Ijebu people but to Nigeria as a whole.”

Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, remains one of Africa’s longest-reigning monarchs and has gained widespread acclaim for his bold advocacy for traditional institution reforms and grassroots development. Senator Daniel described the royal father as a custodian of excellence whose influence transcends cultural boundaries.

The senator also used the occasion to reaffirm his support for the creation of an Ijebu State, a long-standing demand from the Ijebu people aimed at achieving greater administrative autonomy and equitable representation within the Nigerian federation.

“As we move steadily and prayerfully toward the long-anticipated creation of a new state from the historic Ijebu Province,” Daniel stated, “I join millions of voices in expressing my hope that your reign continues in sound health, divine wisdom, and enduring success.”

Beyond the Awujale, Daniel paid glowing tribute to the traditional custodians of Ijebuland’s cultural heritage—specifically the 88 active Regberegbe age-grade groups, including their Giwas, Iyalodes, and other officers. He commended their efforts in upholding the traditions, unity, and communal strength of the Ijebu nation.

“Their dedication to preserving our identity and values is worthy of celebration,” he noted. “They remain a crucial force in maintaining the social fabric of Ijebuland.”

Senator Daniel concluded his message with a heartfelt blessing for the land and its people, saying, “May the spirit of Ijebuland continue to shine brightly across generations. Àsèyí ṣàmọ́dún o!”
