EFCC Arrests Benue Governor’s Aide Over Alleged Sextortion, Cyberbullying

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Dr. Mkor Aondona, over allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying, and criminal blackmail.

Aondona was picked up on Friday by operatives of the Commission’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate following a series of petitions filed by multiple female students, who accused him of luring them into sexual relationships under false pretences and coercion.

The petitioners alleged that the governor’s aide routinely selected slim and attractive young women for ushering jobs under the guise of offering them legitimate employment, only to demand sexual favours as a condition for selection.

According to the EFCC, the embattled aide reportedly recorded the sexual encounters without the consent of the victims and used the footage to blackmail them, threatening to circulate the explicit content if they declined to continue the relationships.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that some of the illicit videos had already been shared across various messaging platforms, deepening the trauma of the victims and prompting public outcry.

“The evidence gathered so far is damning. The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” an EFCC official who spoke under anonymity told PLATFORM TIMES.

This development has sparked outrage within and beyond the state, with advocacy groups calling for a thorough probe and institutional measures to protect young women from sexual exploitation in public institutions.

The Benue State Government is yet to release an official statement on the arrest of the aide, who is believed to have wielded significant influence within the corridors of power.

The EFCC has urged victims of similar abuse to come forward, promising them full protection under the law.
