The leadership crisis rocking the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has deepened as the state chairmen of the party, who are also statutory National Executive Committee (NEC) members, have endorsed the suspension of the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Shehu Gabam.
The head of the SDP Forum of State Chairmen, Mr Femi Adeniyi Ferrari, on Friday after the meeting of the forum, said the state leaders were concerned about the current political situation within the party.
At a press conference attended by 22 state chairmen, the leaders maintained that there’s no crisis within the party and that the party is committed to building a strong internal democracy and presenting themselves as a credible alternative.
“We fully support the National Working Committee’s (NWC) decision to suspend the national chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, the national auditor, Clarkson Nnadi and the national youth leader, Ogbonna Chukuwma.
The protest broke out while the party’s NWC was meeting at its headquarters before officials of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command took over the secretariat to restore order.
