…MULCOED suspends top officials, dissociates self from scandal
Authorities have arrested and detained top management officials of the Mufutau Lanihun College of Education (MULCOED), Ibadan, in connection with a certificate forgery scandal that has rocked the institution.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that those arrested include the Provost, Mr. Lawal Musiliu Ayodele; the Registrar, Mr. Jimah Malik; the Bursar, Mr. Adebolu Sirajudeen; and the Admission Officer, Mr. Akari Abdulrasak. They were taken into custody by operatives of the Nigeria Police in Oyo State over allegations of issuing fake National Certificate in Education (NCE) certificates to individuals who never enrolled at the institution.
The Governing Council of the college, in a strongly worded statement signed by its Chairman, Professor Taslim Asobami Hammed, dated July 1, 2025, confirmed the arrests and dissociated the institution from what it described as a “shameful and criminal act.”
The statement followed an emergency Council meeting held on Saturday, June 28, where the institution resolved to suspend the implicated officials with immediate effect pending the outcome of investigations.
According to the Council, the staff acted without the knowledge or approval of the College’s Proprietor or its Governing Council.
“The staff involved acted entirely on their own volition, motivated by inordinate greed. Their actions have brought the name and image of the college into disrepute,” the statement read.
In response to the scandal, the Council said the affected staff would be referred to the College’s Disciplinary Committee to ensure due process is followed, while a comprehensive audit of the institution’s administrative and academic operations is also being launched.
The Council further announced that a Visitation Panel will soon be constituted by the Proprietor and the College’s Board to probe deeper into the administrative and academic frameworks of the institution.
Professor Hammed assured stakeholders that MULCOED is fully cooperating with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Nigeria Police, and other relevant authorities to facilitate a thorough investigation and prosecution of all those involved in the scandal—both staff and beneficiaries.
Reaffirming the College’s zero tolerance for academic fraud, Professor Hammed said the institution remains committed to upholding integrity and excellence in its academic standards.
“This unfortunate incident, as disturbing as it is, will not define the institution,” he said. “MULCOED remains committed to upholding the ideals of academic excellence and sound moral character.”
The Council also expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for their ongoing efforts to sanitise the education sector, and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for championing reforms in the system.
As part of its efforts to ensure accountability, the institution has formally notified the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, of the developments.
