The Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, has been assassinated by yet-to-be-identified assailants, throwing the university community into mourning.

Adeniran, who assumed office as the institution’s third substantive Registrar on January 6, 2025, was found dead in his residence in Ondo town in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025.

A senior university official who confirmed the incident under anonymity said, “He was discovered lifeless in his home on Thursday morning. It’s shocking, and we are all still in disbelief. We hope the police will get to the bottom of this.”

Reacting to the incident, the Head of Media and Protocol at UNIMED, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, described Adeniran’s death as a devastating blow to the institution.

He said, “He was present at work as recently as Monday, July 14. His sudden death has left the entire university community heartbroken. Mr. Adeniran served with uncommon dedication and integrity. This is a huge loss.”

Similarly, the Head of Human Resources at UNIMED, Mr. M.A. Akinkuade, eulogised the late Registrar, describing him as a loyal and industrious administrator whose contributions to the growth of the institution will not be forgotten.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that Adeniran was murdered and has launched an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death.

State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that the case was reported at the Fanibi Police Division and preliminary investigations have begun.

He said, “From early findings, two men were reportedly seen emerging from a nearby bush and forced an unknown substance into a person’s mouth. We are still working to determine the exact location and nature of the attack.”

Ayanlade assured that detectives were following up on multiple leads and urged members of the public with useful information to come forward.

“We will not rest until those behind this heinous act are apprehended and brought to justice,” he said.

The remains of the late registrar have since been deposited at the morgue as the police intensify efforts to track down his killers.
