The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly killing and dismembering his pregnant sister-in-law, Esther Enemo, in the Temidire community, Ilorin.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, August 21, was said to have been reported by a resident who suspected foul play at the victim’s residence on Egbejila Road.
Spokesperson of the command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement on Saturday, confirmed that the suspect, who is the younger brother of the deceased woman’s husband, was apprehended shortly after the discovery of the crime.
Ejire-Adeyemi disclosed that police officers deployed to the scene found the mutilated remains of Mrs Enemo, 39, in a bush behind her home. Further searches reportedly led to the recovery of additional body parts concealed in a sack and dumped beneath a nearby bridge.
“The suspect, who was sighted leaving the house moments before the gruesome discovery, is now in custody. The victim’s husband has also been contacted for necessary clarification,” the statement read.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the case, assuring that the command would ensure justice is served.
Ejire-Adeyemi urged residents of the community to remain calm and avoid speculations that could heighten tension, adding that the police would unravel the motive behind the crime and prosecute all those involved.
He also appealed for public cooperation through timely and useful information that could aid investigations and strengthen security in the state.
