The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for allegedly attempting to traffic 1.3 kilogrammes of cocaine disguised as a fake pregnancy in Lagos.
The suspect, a mother of one and proprietress of Golden Star Creation, a fashion outfit located along Ago Palace Way, Okota, was apprehended on Friday at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba, while preparing to move the illicit substance to customers in Abuja.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that a subsequent raid on her residence led to the recovery of 200 grams of a cutting agent used in producing a strain of cocaine.
“Ezewuike confessed during interrogation that she inherited the criminal trade from her late husband, who died two years ago. She also claimed to have operated in the fashion business for over 20 years,” Babafemi stated.
In another operation, the anti-narcotics agency intercepted 90 parcels of Loud, a strain of cannabis weighing 48.6kg, imported from the United States and concealed in three cartons of kitchen sinks at a courier company in Lagos on August 19.
Similarly, in Adamawa State, NDLEA operatives stormed the home of a notorious dealer, Idris Garba, at Rumde Baru, Yola South, on Friday. Garba reportedly escaped by scaling a fence, but his associate, 55-year-old Boniface Nnaji, was arrested.
A black Toyota Tundra and a Toyota Yaris used to transport 354,480 pills of tramadol and other opioids were recovered.
Also, in Kogi State, operatives arrested one Neche Okonkwo at Idah waterside after crossing the River Niger from Onitsha with 5,000 capsules of tramadol, 400 ampoules of pentazocine injection, and 200 ampoules of diazepam injection.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the officers for their vigilance and renewed the agency’s commitment to a balanced strategy of drug control, combining enforcement with public sensitisation.
