The councillor representing Ward 13 in Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Jasul, has distributed educational materials and furniture to pupils in his ward, saying the gesture was part of his commitment to ease the burden of parents struggling with the rising cost of education.
Jasul, who was elected in November 2024, donated ten student lockers, 350 exercise books, 200 pens, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners to pupils within the ward.
Speaking during the presentation on Tuesday, Jasul said many parents could no longer afford basic school items due to the harsh economic situation in the country.
“As you can see, people can no longer afford buying lockers, exercise books, or even pens. I decided to step in to make things easier for parents and their children,” he said.
The councillor, who lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Abeokuta South LG Chairman, Hon. Olaniyi Afis Balogun, and the Leader of the House, Hon. Ogundairo Jamiu, said his intervention was driven by personal conviction rather than political gains.
“One may not have the power to help people if he has no source of livelihood before joining politics. That is why I advise party leaders at the state and national level to always choose candidates with a second address, so they won’t rely solely on government salary before assisting their people,” he added.
Former Ogun State APC chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Lemboye, who attended the event, commended Jasul for what he described as “a true dividend of democracy.”
“This is a special day for us because one of our councillors has remembered his people.
He is not just sitting in the office but is giving back by providing benches and books for children. This is what leadership should be about,” Lemboye said.
Similarly, the Ward 13 Chairman of Abeokuta South LG, Mr. Adebayo Iskil, hailed the councillor for fulfilling his campaign promises within a short time.
“Our councillor was sworn in less than a year ago, and this is the third time he is coming back to empower us. This has never happened before in our ward. People are excited because he has shown that he values those who supported him,” Iskil said.
Jasul assured residents that more interventions would come, urging them to continue supporting his administration.
