Traditional rulers of Ifon-Osun, Erin-Osun, and Ilobu communities in Osun State on Monday publicly resolved to bury decades of animosity and embrace lasting peace.
The Olufon of Ifon-Osun, Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye; the Elerin of Erin-Osun, Oba Yussuf Kolawole Omoloye; and the Ilobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, pledged reconciliation at a stakeholders’ engagement organised by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, to mark the 2025 International Day of Peace.
In an emotional moment that drew applause from dignitaries, the monarchs shook hands and embraced, signaling an end to recurring communal clashes that had claimed lives, displaced families, and crippled development in the three neighbouring towns.
Speaking at the event, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, hailed the royal fathers for their courage and assured them of his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace and accelerating infrastructural development across the state.
He said, “This step taken by our revered traditional rulers is historic. Our government will consolidate on this peace by ensuring equal distribution of development projects across every part of Osun.”
Governor Adeleke also commended the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo, for his peacebuilding initiatives, pledging the government’s continued support for the corps.
In their goodwill messages, the monarchs described peace as the foundation for progress and urged government at all levels to prioritise development in their domains, lamenting that years of violence had denied their people meaningful projects and opportunities.
NSCDC State Commandant, Sotiyo, praised the monarchs’ sincerity, describing the symbolic embrace as “a practical demonstration of unity” and a turning point in the history of the three towns.
The event, held in Osogbo, attracted traditional leaders, security agencies, government officials, and community representatives who lauded the peace pact as a model for conflict resolution in Nigeria.
