Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has hinted that more governors from opposition parties are already in talks to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akpabio disclosed this on Tuesday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, while delivering a goodwill message at the public presentation of a book titled “Ten Years of Impactful Leadership of the APC Administration in Nigeria” authored by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The occasion also coincided with the commissioning of projects by President Bola Tinubu.
The Senate President declared that President Tinubu’s policies and reforms have begun yielding visible results, attracting admiration even from opposition leaders.
“Mr President, with what you have done in the last two years, get ready to receive more governors from the opposition parties. As I speak, there are several governors in Nigeria today that are ready to be received by you,” Akpabio said.
He maintained that Nigerians across various sectors — students, farmers, and business owners — are beginning to acknowledge the gains of the reforms, stressing that the testimonies are better than “rubber-stamped praises from politicians.”
Commending Uzodimma for documenting his administration, Akpabio said progressivism should be measured by action, not words.
“If you don’t tell your story, others will tell it for you. Progressiveness is not in words; it is in action. The quality of works done by the governor is of high standard, and the people of Imo State must be very, very excited,” he added.
The former Akwa Ibom governor also congratulated Uzodimma and the national leadership of the APC on what he described as “a decade of visible achievements” under the party.
Akpabio, who recalled his own record of infrastructural development while governing Akwa Ibom 18 years ago, said his legacy aligns with the progressive philosophy of the APC.
The remarks are coming at a time when speculations are rife about likely defections ahead of the 2027 general elections, a development that may further tilt Nigeria’s political landscape in favour of the ruling party.
