Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has approved the establishment of the Olusegun Obasanjo Centre for Conflict Resolution, a facility described as Nigeria’s equivalent of the globally respected Chatham House in London.
The centre, expected to serve as a hub for peacebuilding, democratic engagement and national dialogue, will be launched alongside a book titled The Conflict Resolution Strategies of President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The projects were unveiled on Monday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at a press conference jointly addressed by the Nigerian Diaspora Direct Investment Summit (NDDIS) and the African Diaspora Direct Investment Summit (ADDIS), in collaboration with the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute.
Founder of NDDIS, Mr. Bimbo Robert Folayan, said the twin initiatives were conceived to celebrate Obasanjo’s role as one of Africa’s most influential statesmen whose conflict resolution efforts have contributed to peace in Nigeria and across the continent.
“Today, we gather to honour one of Africa’s greatest statesmen — President Olusegun Obasanjo — whose visionary leadership and remarkable conflict resolution efforts have shaped Nigeria and advanced peace across our continent,” Folayan declared.
He revealed that the 380-page book, spread across 20 chapters, documents Obasanjo’s strategies in mediating peace and stabilising conflicts within Nigeria and other parts of Africa.
According to him, “This project is more than a book or a centre — it is a movement. A call to strengthen our democracy through dialogue, reflection, and respect.”
Folayan, flanked by the Deputy Director of the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute, Prof. Adedeji Daramola, stressed the importance of celebrating national icons while alive.
He recalled that the initiative, which began in 1993 with the late educationist and social crusader, Dr. Tai Solarin, had now extended to Obasanjo as a global statesman.
The two events are slated for November 27, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
Distinguished guests expected at the ceremony include President Bola Tinubu, serving and former African presidents, state governors, and other eminent personalities.
“The event will be a proud moment for Nigeria — a day when we host leaders from across Africa and the world to celebrate peace, leadership and dialogue,” Folayan added.
