The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, on Wednesday paraded 38 suspects, including 16 illegal immigrants allegedly brought into the state from Togo and Benin Republic for “sinister motives.”
Commander of the Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, who addressed journalists at the agency’s headquarters in Akure, said the operatives also arrested 22 other suspects over alleged involvement in offences ranging from kidnapping and murder to vandalism, rape and stealing.
Adeleye disclosed that the 16 immigrants could not explain how they entered the country or their mission in Ondo State.
“We have unusual visitors among us,” he said. “We have Mustafa, Steve, Alfosus, Tango Juntu and Simon, who are involved in bringing in illegal immigrants into the country for sinister motives. Upon interrogation, they could not tell us how they came in from Benin Republic and Togo without any mission into the country.”
He added that the immigrants would be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further profiling and possible repatriation.
“Once Immigration confirms that their stay is not healthy, they will be sent out of the country,” he stated.
On the other suspects, Adeleye explained that they were arrested in different parts of the state for offences linked to kidnapping, murder, vandalism of government property and armed robbery.
He cited the case of a 35-year-old suspect, identified as Aderemi, arrested over alleged involvement in murder and kidnapping, and a 45-year-old man, Etok, suspected to be working as an informant for kidnappers.
“We arrested a syndicate that has consistently been vandalising state government machinery. When our operatives closed in on them, they opened fire, but we subdued and arrested them,” the commander noted.
Other suspects paraded included individuals identified as Victor, Mwazu, Sani, Mosund, James and Sehidu, who were apprehended in connection with vandalism and alleged murder.
Adeleye insisted Ondo remains a hostile environment for criminals due to strong security collaboration across agencies.
“Ondo State still remains one of the safest states. It is not a place for criminals to thrive. Head or tail, Amotekun will catch you. The best thing is not to be involved in criminal activities,” he warned.
He assured residents that the corps would continue intelligence-led operations to flush out criminal elements and protect law-abiding citizens.
