There was pandemonium in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Friday when an ex-convict stabbed a police officer in the forehead over an alleged affair with his wife.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the suspect, identified as Adelani Oriyomi, launched the attack in the early hours of the day in an attempt to disarm one of the policemen stationed at an armoured personnel carrier near the Panseke roundabout.
Eyewitnesses said Oriyomi, who rode to the scene on a motorcycle, accused one of the officers of sleeping with his wife and being responsible for his imprisonment.
He was said to have made a desperate attempt to seize an AK-47 rifle from one of the policemen to shoot the officer he accused.
A witness told PLATFORM TIMES that when the ex-convict failed to snatch the rifle, he brought out a knife concealed in his trousers and stabbed the officer in the forehead.
“He rode to where the police officers were standing, started dragging a gun with one of them, and accused another of having an affair with his wife and sending him to prison. When he could not overpower them, he brought out a knife and stabbed the officer,” the witness recounted.
It was further gathered that the scuffle attracted the attention of other policemen attached to the armoured vehicle, who immediately overpowered the attacker. The officers tied his hands and legs before taking him into custody.
Sources said the injured officer was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the suspect was handed over to the state police command for further investigation.
Meanwhile, checks by PLATFORM TIMES revealed that Oriyomi had previously been arrested in January 2025 by the Ogun State Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) for allegedly attempting to exhume a human skull in the Obada-Oko area of Abeokuta.
At the time, the Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, confirmed that Oriyomi was caught digging a grave and later confessed to having exhumed a skull from another tomb earlier that month. He was said to have served a six-year jail term at the Oba Correctional Centre for a similar offence.
The Ogun State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the latest incident as of press time.
