Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected major arms dealer, rescued a kidnapped victim and disrupted several terrorist networks during coordinated operations across the North-West and North-Central within the last 24 hours.
A credible military source at the Army Headquarters confirmed the breakthroughs to the News Agency of Nigeria, saying the operations were carried out under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Operation Enduring Peace, and Operation Whirl Stroke.
According to the source, troops on Thursday intercepted a suspected terrorist informant during an ambush at Ungwan Gombawa in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.
In another major operation, soldiers of 1 Brigade arrested an alleged arms dealer and key logistics supplier at Danjigba, Bukkuyum LGA of Zamfara State.
Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspect to two terrorist coordinators in Anka LGA, believed to be storing weapons smuggled from Niger Republic.
“Troops recovered military uniforms, a helmet, boots, financial receipts totalling about ₦4 million, and audio evidence relating to arms transactions,” the source said.
Responding to intelligence on the recent abduction of students of Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, troops stormed a terrorist camp in Gando–Sunke Forest, operated by a notorious kingpin, Bello Kaura.
“The attackers fled the area. Troops destroyed the camp and its support facilities,” the source revealed.
A separate operation led to the arrest of another suspected informant travelling from Sokoto. Soldiers recovered five ATM cards, assorted clothing and ₦78,900 from him.
Troops also survived an ambush along the Kaiga–Mara Road in Katsina State, forcing the attackers to retreat under heavy fire.
A firefight in Shinkafi and Zurmi LGAs resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and two motorcycles.
In Plateau State, troops under Operation Enduring Peace foiled a kidnap attempt in Jos South, rescuing a victim who sustained gunshot wounds. They also arrested eight suspected criminal herders during a separate raid in the area.
Similarly, soldiers responding to a road attack in Nasarawa State confirmed that three passengers were kidnapped, while the driver sustained injuries. Efforts to rescue the abducted victims, the source said, were ongoing.
Also in Guma LGA of Benue State, troops arrested two herders accused of destroying farmlands.
The source added that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, recently visited troops in Borno, Kaduna and Zamfara States, where he assessed ongoing operations and charged soldiers to remain disciplined and relentless in the campaign against terrorism.
