Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Saturday witnessed another grand celebration of Christian matrimony as Chidima Oluwatobiloba, daughter of the Set Man of Victory Life Bible Church (VLBC), Apostle Lawrence Achudume, tied the knot with her heartthrob, Israel Aduragbemi Lawal, in a ceremony attended by prominent clerics, political leaders, and well-wishers from within and outside Nigeria.
The colourful union, held at the church’s Ajebo Road headquarters, comes barely months after Apostle Achudume celebrated the wedding of his son, David, in April — turning VLBC into a recurring venue of high-profile family celebrations in 2025.
Draped in resplendent purple décor, the church auditorium was filled to capacity as families, friends, and eminent personalities converged to bless the couple and share in the joy of both the Achudume and Lawal families.
The ceremony began at 11 a.m. with soul-lifting thanksgiving and worship led by the VLBC choir, whose ministration heightened the spiritual atmosphere.
The Bishop of Egba Anglican Diocese, Right Reverend Emmanuel Adekunle, officiated the joining of the couple and led them through their marriage vows in accordance with Christian doctrine.
In his sermon, the General Overseer of Victory International Church, Ibadan, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, reminded the couple that marriage remains God’s institution designed for companionship, help, comfort, and procreation. He emphasised the need for unity, communication, and spiritual alignment.
“When two hearts pray together, they align not only with each other but also with a higher purpose,” he said. “This lays a foundation for a marriage that can withstand life’s storms and contribute to nation-building.”
Bishop Adelakun outlined seven practices couples must embrace for a successful marriage, praying, eating, sleeping, playing, serving God, communicating, and disciplining together — warning that neglecting these values creates openings for conflict and moral crisis.
“If every home embraces togetherness, Nigeria will witness a wave of social cohesion, economic growth, and moral leadership from the living room to the highest office,” he added.
A visibly elated Apostle Achudume expressed confidence in his daughter’s readiness for marriage, attributing it to the family’s grounding in Christian teachings.
“I have watched her grow in the faith, and I am convinced that the foundation laid in Christ will guide her as a wife and mother,” he said.
The event drew an impressive roll call of Christian leaders, including: Bishop Felix Omobude of Agape Christian Ministry Worldwide (represented by Revd Mrs Abiola Omobude); Bishop Felix Adejumo ; Bishop Ruben Oke of TREM ; Bishop Tom Samson of Christ International Church Worldwide ; Bishop Emmanuel Adekunle ; and Bishop Olubunmi Banwo of the Bible Society of Nigeria
The political and government circle was also well represented. Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, and the Chief of Staff, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was represented by his wife, Mrs Bola Obasanjo, while former Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel, former Ogun Commissioner Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello, and Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, were also in attendance. Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, sent a representative.
The reception, held at Emfelix Event Conference Centre, Ajebo Road, was another spectacular affair. Guests were treated to a wide variety of meals, drinks, and musical performances as the newlyweds danced into their new life.
Among the dignitaries at the reception were the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, and former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola.
The celebration continued late into the evening as friends, family, and associates rejoiced with the Achudumes and the Lawals on the memorable occasion.
