The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), over the alleged drugging and rape of a 20-year-old female undergraduate.
The police spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest on Monday, describing the case as part of the command’s intensified clampdown on serious crimes involving young people.
According to police findings, the victim had honoured an invitation from her longtime friend, 19-year-old Queen Sodo, who allegedly offered her a drink later discovered to have been spiked.
The victim reportedly became unconscious shortly after consuming the beverage.
Sodo was said to have left the room after noticing the victim’s condition, allegedly inviting her male accomplice to perpetrate the assault while she kept watch.
A neighbour, who became suspicious after hearing unusual sounds from the apartment, intervened and found the victim unconscious with the male suspect present.
The victim was immediately rushed for medical treatment and later transferred to a specialist hospital where she is currently recovering.
DSP Ayanlade disclosed that both suspects have confessed to the crime and have identified key exhibits, including the drug-laced drink used in the assault.
“The command assures the public that all offenders, regardless of their relationship with victims, will face the full weight of the law,” he said, adding that the suspects remain in custody and will be handed over to the Gender Desk Office for further investigation and prosecution.
He also urged parents and guardians to warn their children about the risks associated with personal relationships, stressing that even long-term friendships can be exploited for criminal purposes.
