The Edo State House of Assembly has summoned Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, member representing Egor constituency, to appear before its Ethics and Privileges Committee within one week over a controversial viral video featuring her and her husband, Nigerian international singer Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba.
The Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku, described the video as “embarrassing” and accused the lawmaker of bringing the Assembly into disrepute.
The decision was announced during Tuesday’s plenary session.
“For the past one week, Hon. Natasha has been trending negatively on social media and electronic media platforms, including TVC and Silverbird,” Agbebaku said.
“Her conduct has dragged this House, a highly reputable and cerebral institution, through the mud. We have responsible, intelligent members who uphold the dignity of this House, and such behavior cannot be condoned.”
The Speaker warned that the committee has been given two weeks to submit its findings, and Natasha is expected to explain her actions and the circumstances surrounding the video.
The video, recorded in London, shows Natasha arguing with 2Baba in a shop, shouting repeatedly, “Don’t do that! Don’t do it!” The clip went viral, sparking nationwide debate and social media attention.
“This House is a decent and reputable institution,” Agbebaku added.
“We want the public to know that the misconduct of one member does not define us. We expect all members to act responsibly at all times.”
Efforts to reach Hon. Natasha Osawaru for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
The Assembly’s move comes amid increasing scrutiny of lawmakers’ personal conduct, particularly when it spills into the public domain, potentially affecting the image of the legislature.
