The Department of State Services has arrested a medical doctor alleged to be supplying drugs to injured kidnappers operating across parts of Kwara State.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the suspect, whose identity is being withheld for security reasons, was intercepted at Jebba in the Moro Local Government Area after intelligence linked him to a network of couriers servicing violent criminal gangs.
Security sources said that the doctor was travelling from Sokoto and was on his way to deliver medical supplies to bandits nursing gunshot wounds sustained during recent clashes with security forces.
“He was tracked and picked up at the Jebba axis following credible intelligence about his role in offering medical support to kidnappers,” one of the sources revealed.
According to the operatives, the arrest comes amid intensified operations by troops and other security agencies to dislodge bandits who infiltrated Kwara from neighbouring states.
The source added that recent offensives have left many of the criminals injured, prompting a desperate search for covert medical treatment.
“The criminal gangs are becoming increasingly desperate for medical care because many of them have been hit during encounters with troops,” the official said.
“That desperation is what is driving them to recruit private medical personnel who are willing to treat them illegally.”
Security agencies are now warning health workers, especially those in remote and forest-bordering facilities, to heighten vigilance.
“We are advising improved security measures in health facilities located in thickly forested areas which the kidnappers may target,” the official further cautioned.
The DSS is said to be deepening its investigation to uncover the wider network behind the illicit medical supply chain, including possible collaborators across states.
The arrest comes as security agencies intensify operations aimed at dismantling the logistics backbone sustaining kidnapping syndicates in Kwara and neighbouring states.
