The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has tracked 35 Federal Government projects valued at N4.61bn in Zamfara State, directing contractors handling problematic jobs to immediately return to site.
The commission said the move was part of efforts to ensure value for money and prevent diversion or abandonment of public funds tied to constituency and executive projects.
The team leader of the exercise, Dr Murtala Bankano, disclosed this on Saturday while briefing journalists in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
Bankano explained that the tracking was conducted under the Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Initiative, a mechanism designed by the anti-graft agency to monitor the execution of projects captured in the federal budget.
According to him, the initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Budget Office, the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, the media and other critical stakeholders to guarantee compliance with approved standards and specifications.
He said the projects assessed in Zamfara fell under Phase Eight of the tracking exercise and cut across six key sectors — education, health, water resources, power, empowerment and agriculture.
Bankano noted that while some of the projects were at advanced stages of completion, others were either partially executed or required remedial work.
“Although the exercise is still awaiting the report of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors to determine the specific gauge and valuation of the projects in question, we are directing all contractors with issues to return to site immediately and do the needful,” he said.
He stressed that the core objective of the initiative was to ensure effective and standard implementation of constituency and executive projects across the country, in line with budgetary provisions.
The commission reiterated its resolve to sustain nationwide tracking of government-funded projects to curb waste, promote transparency and strengthen accountability in public spending.
The development comes amid growing public concerns over abandoned and poorly executed federal projects in several states, despite huge budgetary allocations.
