The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a pastor and two other suspects for allegedly being in possession of suspected human parts in Ibadan.
The suspects were apprehended during a stop-and-search operation carried out by police operatives along the Adekile area of Agugu, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka.
The police said the operation led to the interception of an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle conveying a suspicious package.
“During a search, the rider was apprehended on the spot, and a package containing flesh suspected to be human parts was recovered,” the statement read.
The suspect, identified as Oyategbe Joseph, was immediately taken into custody and interrogated.
According to the police, Joseph allegedly confessed to obtaining the human parts from an unidentified individual in the Oritaperin area of Ibadan.
He further disclosed that he sold the items to two buyers — Alfa Onaolapo Taiwo, 46, and Pastor Ayodele Taiwo, 55.
Acting on the information, police operatives tracked and arrested the two alleged buyers, who were subsequently brought in for questioning.
“The suspects admitted to purchasing the items from the initial suspect,” the police added.
The Commissioner of Police in the state has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for what the command described as a “discreet and thorough investigation.”
All three suspects remain in custody and are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police, however, urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, particularly relating to the sale or possession of human parts, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in combating crime.
