A retired broadcaster and former staff member of the Ogun State Television (Ogun State Television), Mrs. Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan”, has been found murdered alongside her security guard in what police suspect to be a violent home invasion in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday at her residence in the Kobape area of the Ogun State capital.
According to preliminary police findings, unknown assailants allegedly forced their way into the premises, leaving behind clear signs of violent entry and disturbance.
The body of the security guard was discovered at his post within the security outpost, while Oyesiku’s body was later found inside her apartment, suggesting that the attackers moved freely within the compound during the invasion.
Her vehicle was also discovered missing from the residence, raising suspicions that the attackers may have fled the scene with it.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who confirmed the incident, said operatives were immediately deployed to the scene upon receipt of the distress report.
He noted that detectives carried out a preliminary assessment which indicated forced entry and other suspicious activities consistent with a violent attack.
“The incident was reported at Owode Egba Division on Sunday, June 21, 2026, by a resident of Iyana Agodo Village, who raised the alarm over suspicious activities at the residence,” Babaseyi said.
He added that the command had commenced a comprehensive investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killings and track down the perpetrators.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has ordered an intensive and coordinated probe into the incident, with expanded surveillance and intelligence-led operations already underway across relevant locations.
The police spokesperson assured residents that efforts were ongoing to ensure those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice, while urging members of the public to remain calm and provide useful information that could aid investigations.
“The Ogun State Police Command commiserates with the family of the deceased, the Ogun State Television family, the media community, and all those affected by this tragic loss,” he said.
Meanwhile, the killings have thrown the Kobape community into shock, with residents expressing concern over rising insecurity in parts of Abeokuta and calling for swift action by security agencies.
