The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s successor, IGP Tunji Disu, has approved the immediate redeployment of 10 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to strategic commands and formations across the country as part of a major reorganisation of the Nigeria Police Force.
The postings, contained in a “Most Immediate” wireless message from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, were directed to all police departments, zonal commands, state commands, specialised formations and training institutions for immediate implementation.
According to the signal, AIG Polycarp Emeka Nwonyi has been posted to Zone 9 Command, Umuahia, while AIG Obono Nnaghe Itam was redeployed as Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos.
AIG Bassey Samuel Ewa was assigned to Zone 15 Command, Maiduguri, while AIG Osagie John Agans-Irabor was redeployed to Zone 3 Command, Yola.
Similarly, AIG Monday Agbonika was posted to Zone 5 Command, Benin.
In the new postings, AIG Daniel Edobor Iyamah was appointed to head the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, while AIG Isah Danladi Nda was redeployed to the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Kaduna.
Also, AIG Akaniyene Ifebem Ezima was posted to the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja, while AIG Bello Rashid Afegbua was deployed to Zone 6 Command, Calabar.
The reshuffle also saw AIG Betty Enekpen Otimenyin appointed as the new AIG in charge of Zone 8 Command, Lokoja.
The directive, referenced TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB. X Posting Senior Officers, instructed all relevant departments responsible for personnel records and establishment matters to immediately update official records in line with the new postings.
The wireless message was circulated to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, the Departments of Finance and Administration, Operations, Information and Communication Technology, all 17 zonal commands, commissioners of police in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as specialised tactical units, police colleges and other training institutions.
The signal was also copied to the Inspector-General’s Secretariat for information.
The latest redeployment is expected to strengthen operational efficiency and reposition key departments and zonal commands of the Nigeria Police Force, although the Force Headquarters did not state the specific reasons for the reshuffle.
