The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden and other world leaders have expressed the desire to work with the newly sworn-in President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu.
This was contained in a statement issued by Tinubu’s media aide, Tunde Rahman, on Monday, May 29.
Tinubu and the Vice President, Kashim Shettima were sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola.
Apart from the United States, others include the United Kingdom ,Saudi Arabia, Japan, Brazil, South Korea, Israel, Cape Verde, Somalia, and Nicaragua congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his inauguration as the 16th President of Nigeria.
The countries also declared their readiness to work with Tinubu.
He disclosed that the U.S. delegation led by Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Marcia L. Fudge, paid a courtesy call on the President and had a brief bilateral discussion with him.
Biden, in the release, reiterates his administration’s readiness to work with Tinubu “to strengthen ties between the United States and Nigeria.”
He said, “On behalf of the people of the United States, I send warm wishes to the government and people of Nigeria as they inaugurate a new President. I look forward to continuing this work with President Tinubu to support economic growth, advance security, and promote respect for human rights.”
The US President expressed optimism about the ideas and energy of the dynamic connection between the two countries, noting that the US will continue to work closely with the most populous country in Africa.
“As Africa’s largest democracy and economy, Nigeria’s success is the world’s success. Elected leaders owe it to their people to show that democracy can deliver for their needs. And the United States will continue to work closely with Nigeria, as a friend and partner, to deliver a more peaceful and prosperous future for our world,” Biden said.
Rahman noted that the new UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, while congratulating President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, presented letters from British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak; King Charles III; and Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
Rahman stated that the South Korean delegation also had bilateral discussions with Tinubu.
He revealed that the delegation, while delivering a letter of invitation from South Korean, President, Yoon Suk Yeol, for Tinubu to visit the country soon, also sought increase relations between the two countries.
He added that the Saudi Arabian delegation equally delivered a goodwill message from the Saudi Royal House to the President.
According to him, a special envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, also paid a call on Tinubu and extended a hand of support and fellowship.
Rahman disclosed that Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, sent a delegation which met with Tinubu and expressed willingness to work with the country in the area of fin-tech.
He listed others who met with the President and pledged cooperation with Nigeria to include delegations from Brazil, Somali, Cape Verde, and Nicaragua.
