The police at the weekend quelled a bloody street fight at the Ajegunle area of Lagos State and arrested two suspects.
It was gathered a fight broke out between Aroworade and Olaleye street boys on Friday evening which caused panic among residents.
Videos of the fight that later circulated on social media, showed the thugs, armed with bottles, sticks, and other dangerous weapons, attacking warring factions.
As soon as the hoodlums saw police patrol vehicles advancing, they took to their heels but two of them, Quadri Yekini, 32, and James Segun, 22, were not so fortunate.
Confirming the incident, spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said the police patrol vans remained in the area to forestall resumed fighting.
He said the arrested suspects would be charged to court.
Hundeyin also confirmed the arrest of a suspected cultists by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Saturday morning at the Ikoyi area.
He said a semi automatic pistol, four live ammunition and one hat with cult insignia were recovered from him.
“The suspect, Idris Ayinla, 33, alongside three other occupants were in a red Toyota Matrix with registration number EKY638EX, heading towards Oniru Beach when the operatives on routine patrol of Admiralty Road, Ikoyi flagged them down.
“After the driver had brought the car to a stop, one of the occupants offered the officers some money, which they declined, rather insisting on searching the vehicle.
“Sensing danger, the suspects all ran out of the car and one of them, Idris Ayinla, shot at the operatives while attempting to escape. The operatives responded swiftly, as a result of which he sustained a gunshot wound on his leg, arrested him and recovered his firearm.
“The suspect has since been transferred to the command headquarters for harmonisation with ongoing investigations into activities of cultists within the state, after which all culpable suspects will be arraigned. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects,” he said.
