Crisis In Edo : Deputy Governor Seeks Legal Protection Against Imminent Impeachment

In an unexpected turn, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu has taken legal recourse to shield himself from potential actions by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The move comes amidst rising tensions within the Edo State government.

Shaibu has taken his case to the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he has filed a motion of notice seeking an interlocutory injunction.

This injunction aims to prevent any harassment, intimidation, or obstruction of his official duties as Deputy Governor.

The court papers name several key figures, including the Inspector General of Police, the State Security Service, the Governor of Edo State, the Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, and the Chief Judge of Edo State, as the defendants in the case.

The strife between Governor Obaseki and his Deputy has been increasingly evident over the past months, with tensions reaching a boiling point.

One pivotal moment was when a viral video surfaced, showing  Shaibu alongside Senator Adams Oshiomhole during the inauguration of the 9th National Assembly in Abuja.

Sources revealed that the situation escalated further when Governor Obaseki convened a meeting at his residence for the State House of Assembly’s PDP members.

Notably, Deputy Governor Shaibu was conspicuously excluded from the gathering, which raised eyebrows due to its unusual nature.

Upon receiving information about the meeting, Deputy Governor Shaibu attempted to attend but was barred by DSS personnel, who claimed he was not on the list of invitees.

These recent developments highlight the deepening divide between the two leaders, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the political landscape of Edo State.
