In a display of commitment to transparency and accountability, Bauchi State Ministry of Finance has taken a strong stand against wrongdoing.
The ministry recently took decisive action by dismissing two senior civil servants, Nasiru Sama’ila, Chief Clerical Officer, and Awwal Jibrin, Assistant Chief Clerical Officer.
Their dismissal follows allegations of forgery and misappropriation of funds from the estate of their late colleague.
The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission, in a session held on August 15, 2023, thoroughly examined the case and found the two officers guilty of forging documents and diverting the substantial sum of N332,000, which rightfully belonged to the late Jibrin Zalanga, a former staff member of the ministry. This wrongful act is in direct violation of section 327 of the Public Service Rule (PSR).
Both officers have admitted to their wrongdoing during the investigation, and this admission played a significant role in the commission’s decision.
Saleh Umar, the spokesperson for the BSCSC, conveyed the commission’s stance, stating, “We recognize the importance of maintaining the highest ethical standards in our civil service.
The dismissal of these officers sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.
Additionally, it reinforces our commitment to upholding the trust placed in us by the people of Bauchi.”
It is worth noting that both Nasiru Sama’ila and Awwal Jibrin were previously apprehended by the police and brought before the Chief Magistrate to face legal consequences for their actions.
During the same session, the commission also showcased its dedication to the well-deserved recognition of hardworking civil servants.
A total of 73 officers were promoted, with the Ministry of Religious Affairs taking the lead by promoting 59 personnel across various grades.
Alh. Abubakar Husman, the Chairman of the commission, seized the opportunity to remind all employees of their responsibility to act with integrity and to adhere to financial regulations in the performance of their duties.
In a parallel case, the commission had previously terminated the employment of Ibrahim Garba, an individual attached to the state Pension Board, for a similar offense.
These actions underscore the commission’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the civil service and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in public service.
