The chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress,(NLC), Delta state chapter, Hon. Chief Goodluck Ofobruku has said that the labour Congress will shut down all activities across the state and in Nigeria if the federal government fails to listen to their demands by alleviating the suffering the Federal Government policies has brought on Nigerians.
The NLC chairman spoke to journalists in Asaba, when platform times reporter, alongside other journalists monitor the level of compliance of workers in the state as directed by the NLC National Executive Council, (NEC)
The chairman said that the 2-days warning strike was to protest and remind the Federal Government issues of alleviating the suffering that her policies have brought on Nigerians which has not been resolved.
He added that the strike was also to protest against the shoddy ways the Federal Government is handling the issues of palliative and wages in the country.
He noted that workers in the state have stayed away from work in compliance with the directed by the National Executive Council in order for the Federal Government to settle demand of workers and Nigerians in general.
Adding that the the two day warning strike is a prelude for total shutdown across the country on 21, September 2023 if the Federal Government fails to listen.
He said, ” if the Federal Government listen to us, we will suspend the decision taken by the NEC to proceed on total strike with effect from 21 September 2023.
“ However, if they fail to listen to us, we assured that from 21 September 2023, we shall go on a total strike, and it will not be what you are seeing now, this just a warning strike to show the government what we can do”
While reacting if the two days warning strike was not a deliberate attempt to distort the presidential election tribunal judgement, he said it was not, saying the Nigeria law give right to protest against bad government policies and that the number of days were also complied with.
Earlier Platform times reporter observed a hundred percent compliance by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Asaba except few of the members who belong to the Trade Union Congress, (TUC) but they were seen returning to their various homes.
Some of the Places visited Asaba Hospital, MDAs, University, Polytechnics and others were all shut-down.
