    Nigeria’s Oldest Chartered Accountant Dies At 104

    The first indigenous chartered accountant in Nigeria, Pa Akintola Williams, has passed away at the age of 104.

    He died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 11, 2023, according to a statement from his family.

    Pa Williams was born in 1919 and studied accounting at the University of London.

    He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1947 and returned to Nigeria to establish his own firm, Akintola Williams & Co., now Deloitte & Touche, in 1952.

    He was a pioneer and a leader in the accounting profession in Nigeria.

    He was a founding member and a president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN.

    He was also a member of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors.

    He received several awards and honours for his contributions to the development of the financial sector in Nigeria.

    He was conferred with the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM).

    He was also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

    Pa Williams was a respected and admired figure who will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and the nation.
