    UNILORIN Shines Bright: 450 First Class Graduates Emerge In Spectacular Combined Convocations

    In a grand announcement today, Professor Wahab Egbewole, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, revealed that a staggering 450 students have achieved the prestigious First Class degree during the academic sessions of 2020/2021 and 2022/2023. 

    This remarkable achievement was disclosed during a pre-convocation press conference held in Ilorin, Kwara State, on October 18, 2023, leading up to the university’s combined 37th and 38th convocations.

    Egbewole provided a detailed breakdown of the graduating students: “We shall be convoking 25,234 students during the 37th and 38th convocation ceremonies, with 14,477 students for the 37th Convocation from the 2020/2021 academic session, and 10,757 students for the 38th convocation from the 2021/2022 Academic Session.”

    “In the First Degree/Diploma category of the 37th convocation ceremonies, we have 211 First Class, 4,143 Second Class (Upper Division), 6,570 Second Class (Lower Division), 1,742 Third Class, and 30 Pass.

     The 37th convocation ceremonies also include 151 MBBS graduands, 73 Nursing graduands, 18 Optometry graduands, 43 Veterinary Medicine graduands, 12 graduands with Distinction, and 27 graduands with Pass in Pharmacy, summing up to 13,020 for First Degrees/Diplomas.”

    “Furthermore, a total of 1,457 Higher Degrees will be awarded at the 37th convocation ceremonies, including 75 Postgraduate Diplomas, 976 Masters from various Faculties, 88 MBA/MPA/MILR/MGIS/MPH/MHPMs, and 318 PhDs.”

    “For students graduating from the University of Ilorin in the 2021/2022 academic session, in the First Degree/Diploma category of the 38th convocation ceremonies, we have 239 First Class, 3,406 Second Class (Upper Division), 4,691 Second Class (Lower Division), 961 Third Class, and 21 Pass, amounting to 9,684 graduates in the First Degrees/Diplomas category.”

    “Additionally, there will be 1,073 Higher Degrees awarded at the 38th convocation ceremonies, which include 60 Postgraduate Diplomas, 605 Masters from various Faculties, 211 MBA/MPA/MILR/MGIS/MPH/MHPMs, and 197 PhDs.”

    Egbewole also proudly stated that UNILORIN has achieved notable milestones in both national and international rankings, with the university being the top choice for students in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for the 10th consecutive year. Furthermore, several Faculties and subjects from UNILORIN have received recognition as among the world’s best in the Times Higher Education Subject Rankings, and four academic staff members have been acknowledged as top scientists in the global research community.

    In closing, Egbewole mentioned that several completed projects under his administration would be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu on Monday, highlighting the university’s commitment to academic excellence and infrastructure development.
