In the run-up to the Imo state governorship election set to take place tomorrow, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the election, Frank Mba, has emphasized the commitment to maintain peace and provide a level playing field for all contestants.
DIG Frank Mba addressed the media and observer groups in Owerri, assuring the public that law enforcement agencies are determined to uphold the rule of law and ensure a secure environment for the democratic process.
He acknowledged that politicians around the world often have a tendency to incite violence during elections, but he pledged that such behavior would not be tolerated in the Imo election.
“We are well aware that politicians often have the DNA to cause crisis during elections, but we will not allow them to have their way in the Imo election,” Mba stated firmly.
To bolster security in the state, the police have deployed officers to strategic locations across Imo. Additionally, DIG Mba revealed that certain unnamed politicians are under close surveillance.
“We will do what is right, in accordance with the law. We will conduct ourselves professionally and operationally to ensure a level playing field for all contestants in tomorrow’s election,” he stated.
Furthermore, he sought to reassure the public that Imo is not a war zone and urged unity in addressing any security concerns that may arise.
“Imo is not on fire. Whatever security challenges exist, they are not insurmountable. Let us work together, and we will deliver,” DIG Frank Mba emphasized.
With these measures in place, Imo residents and stakeholders can look forward to a peaceful and fair election process as they exercise their democratic right to choose the next governor of the state.
The police and other security agencies are standing ready to ensure that the voices of the people are heard without disruption or violence.
