In a shocking turn of events, twenty students of the University of Calabar (Unical) found themselves in the emergency room of the university’s teaching hospital after a stampede broke out in an overcrowded exam hall.

The incident occurred on Saturday when students were scheduled to take their General Studies and Communication Skills (GSS) examination, which had been postponed from the previous day.

The GSS examination was a critical milestone for 100 level students hailing from various faculties within the university.

However, the well-intentioned decision to conduct the exam in batches inadvertently led to a chaotic situation. With limited available spaces, students rushed to secure their spots, resulting in a stampede.

This unfortunate incident took place amidst the backdrop of Unical’s second-semester examinations, which had been ongoing since October 16.

The GSS examination was expected to be the climax of this semester’s academic evaluations, but it turned into a disaster.

Despite the outcry and distress caused by the stampede, the university’s management has so far declined to comment on the incident, leaving many questions unanswered.

However, an anonymous but reliable source has confirmed the occurrence of the stampede, shedding light on the grave situation.

In the wake of this unfortunate incident, the University of Calabar finds itself under scrutiny for its handling of examination logistics and safety measures.

Students and parents alike are calling for transparency and accountability in the investigation of the stampede and the formulation of measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

As the affected students recuperate in the teaching hospital, the University of Calabar faces not only a healthcare crisis but also a crisis of confidence in its ability to ensure the safety and well-being of its students during important academic events.

It remains to be seen how the university will respond to this incident, as the entire academic community anxiously awaits further developments and the university’s official statement regarding the stampede.

In other news, Ahman Pategi University (APU) in Patigi, Kwara State, has announced a collaborative effort with the National Universities Commission (NUC) to establish a Faculty of Education.

This development was disclosed in a statement released by Alhaji Hammed Olufadi, the Registrar of the University.

The collaboration aims to streamline the commencement of the Faculty of Education at Ahman Pategi University, demonstrating the continuous growth and expansion of educational opportunities in Nigeria.
