The Ogun State government, spearheaded by Governor Dapo Abiodun, has allocated a substantial N2,664,268,190.03 towards travel and transport expenses spanning the years 2021 to 2022.

This revelation was unearthed by PLATFORM TIMES through an analysis of financial statements  prepared by the Accountant-General/Permanent Secretary, Tunde Aregbesola, with the document dated April 28, 2023.

The detailed breakdown of these expenditures surfaced through an official statement accessible on the Ogun government portal and scrutinized by PLATFORM TIMES on Friday, November 24, 2023.

In 2022, the government disbursed a significant N1,208,017,543.51 for both local and foreign travels and transport, following a trend set in 2021 with an expenditure of N1,456,250,646.52.

International Travel and Transport incurred a hefty bill of N699,809,249.67 in 2022, while the preceding year saw an allocation of N255,537,335.00 for the same category, as per the disclosed statement.

Breaking down the figures further, International Travel and Transport on Training amassed N299,884,558.84 in 2022 and N58,276,463.74 in 2021, indicating a substantial investment in training-related travel expenses.

Local Travel and Transport also featured prominently, with the government disbursing N129,984,913.00 and N556,509,609.26 in 2022 and 2021, respectively.

A noteworthy aspect of the financial exploration is the allocation of N78,338,822.00 and N585,927,238.52 to local Travel and Transport on Training in 2022 and 2021, suggesting a commitment to skill development and capacity building within the state.

The statement, bearing the signature of the Accountant General, officially authorized the issuance of the State’s financial statements for the year ending December 31, 2022.

Emphasizing adherence to accrual basis International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSASs), it assures transparency and accountability in the financial reporting process.
