In a groundbreaking achievement, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta  has been recognized as the best University of Agriculture in Africa and clinched the 7th position globally in the prestigious 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR).

The announcement positions FUNAAB at the forefront of agricultural education and research on the continent.

The 2024 WUR, employing the new 3.0 methodology, meticulously assessed 2,671 entries from 1,906 universities across 108 countries and regions.

This comprehensive evaluation involved 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators, scrutinizing institutions in key areas such as Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook.

What sets the 2024 WUR apart is its reliance on a vast dataset, analyzing over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications and incorporating survey responses from 68,402 scholars globally.

Impressively, a total of 411,789 data points were collected from 2,673 institutions that willingly submitted their data for evaluation.

Expressing his delight, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, extended heartfelt congratulations to the entire FUNAAB community for their collective efforts in achieving this remarkable milestone.

He emphasized the need for continued collaboration and dedication to further elevate the university’s standing on the global stage.

This latest triumph follows FUNAAB’s noteworthy performance in the 2023 Sub-Saharan Africa University rankings, where the institution secured the 2nd position in Nigeria and was recognized as the best public university in the country.

The consecutive accolades underscore FUNAAB’s commitment to excellence in education, research, and international collaboration.

The credibility of the Times Higher Education Rankings, a trusted benchmark worldwide for students, educators, governments, and industry experts, was underscored by the 2024 league table.

The rankings not only recognize FUNAAB’s achievement but also highlight the dynamic shifts occurring in the global higher education landscape, solidifying the institution’s status as a leader in agricultural education and research.
