NGO Demands Justice For Murdered Yobe Woman; Urges Action Against Gender-Based Violence

The Women-led Civil Society Network (WOLNY), a non-governmental organization (NGO), is calling for justice following the brutal murder of Hajiya Ammi Ibrahim beside her husband, Abubakar Musa, at their residence in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

The incident, which occurred on January 4, has led to the detention of the woman’s husband, 43-year-old Musa, who is now a suspect in the alleged murder of his civil servant wife.

Expressing deep concern over the rise in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Nigeria, WOLNY released a statement on Monday, signed by its Chairperson, Hajiya Altine Ibrahim.

The NGO is urging the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder and ensure swift justice for Ibrahim.

“We are deeply troubled by the details surrounding the death of Ammi Adamu, who is a volunteer in one of our member organizations,” stated Hajiya Altine Ibrahim.

She emphasized the alarming nature of the incident, questioning the safety of women, even when in their own beds beside their husbands, who are traditionally seen as protectors in society.

Highlighting the increasing cases of gender-based violence in the state, Ibrahim called on the Yobe state government and security agencies to take measures to protect women.

While commending the police for their swift response to the incident, she urged them to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the perpetrator faces the full consequences of the law.

“It is crucial that such atrocities are brought to the forefront to prevent further occurrences and to protect the rights and well-being of women in our society,” emphasized the chairperson, echoing the urgent need to address and curb gender-based violence.
