Father Of Late Afrobeat Singer Mohbad Expresses Dissatisfaction With Police Investigation

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Afrobeat sensation Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the ongoing police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.

In an exclusive interview with Trust TV on Wednesday, Joseph Aloba urged the government to intensify efforts in the probe until justice is served for his son’s demise.

Expressing his discontent, Joseph stated, “I am not satisfied with the police investigation. A lot of things have been said outside which are not really right.

When I carried Mohbad’s body to the police station, my expectation was that they would follow me to search his house or give me the police (autopsy) report which they have not given me. Those are the areas I am not satisfied with.”

The grieving father emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, urging the police to question individuals who were living with Mohbad.

He emphasised the importance of scrutinising their phones to uncover potential clues about the circumstances leading to Mohbad’s untimely death.

“We are still looking for justice….Delay can result in denial. I am begging the government to put more effort so that things can go on fine as people expect,” he added.

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, and was laid to rest the following day.

The founder of Marlian Records, Naira Marley, and Sam Larry faced police questioning amid the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death.

Both denied any wrongdoing, were arrested, arraigned, and later released on bail, while a nurse who administered injections to Mohbad became a prime suspect.

Following public outcry, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun ordered a forensic investigation.

The Lagos State Police Command established a 10-man team, including a pathologist, to conduct an autopsy and investigate Mohbad’s death.

In November 2023, the Lagos Coroner Court disclosed that the most crucial part of the autopsy was underway in the United States, with the toxicology test focusing on the internal body. Calls for the release of the autopsy report have intensified.

However, the latest update on the investigation from Lagos police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin remains elusive, as calls and text messages to him went unanswered as of the time of this report.
