President Bola Tinubu has called on All Progressives Congress (APC) governors to formulate and execute policies that prioritize the well-being of all Nigerians, emphasizing the importance of considering national interests over political affiliations.
Addressing members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) during a meeting at the State House in Abuja on Friday, Tinubu stressed that development policies must focus on inclusivity, ownership, and sustainability to have a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
The president urged governors to work towards healing and unifying the country, emphasizing the need for a collective national vision.
Tinubu dismissed the notion of Nigeria being cursed or impoverished, citing the nation’s abundant human, natural, and material resources.
He proposed a comprehensive re-engineering of the financial system to ensure inclusivity, effectiveness, and efficiency, asserting that there is no justification for the country’s current challenges in education and healthcare.
Tinubu specifically called for a robust framework to enhance the implementation of the school feeding program nationwide.
He urged governors, including those from the opposition, to collaborate on this initiative, emphasizing the importance of viewing children’s return to classrooms as a collective achievement.
Additionally, Tinubu commended the efforts of the Governor of Borno, Prof. Babagana Zulum, for restoring irrigation systems supporting year-long crop cultivation.
On security matters, he revealed plans to deploy forest guards with modern technology and weaponry, while also securing the marine and solid mineral economic sectors with specialized police units.
Expressing his commitment to investing in security, Tinubu proposed the establishment of reserves for minerals, particularly gold, to bolster foreign exchange reserves.
In response, the Chairman of the PGF, Hope Uzodinma, conveyed gratitude to the president for involving governors in policy design and implementation, as well as providing financial support to the states.
Uzodinma pledged continued support from the governors, positioning themselves as willing and capable ambassadors of the president’s agenda.
