In a significant move aimed at aligning with emerging trends and enhancing the preparation of graduates for national development, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has officially announced the separation of Mass Communication and computer science programs into distinct categories.
This development was disclosed through a press release in Kaduna on Monday, where Prof. Bugaje outlined the new specialised areas resulting from this restructuring:
- HND Strategic Communication and Media Studies
- HND Journalism and Media Studies
- HND Film and Multimedia Production
- HND Artificial Intelligence
- HND Networking and Cloud Computing
- HND Software and Web Development
- HND Cybersecurity and Data Protection
Starting from the 2024/2025 academic session, there will be no new admissions into the former HND mass communication and computer science programs.
Students who have already been admitted to these programs are granted until 2025 to complete their studies as part of the phase-out process.
Prof. Bugaje emphasized that admissions from the 2024/2025 academic session will exclusively be for the newly introduced specialized areas.
This strategic decision by NBTE reflects a proactive response to the evolving needs of industries and the broader landscape of technology and communication.
