In a disconcerting development, Al-Qalam University in Katsina has officially acknowledged the abduction of two female students.

These students were passengers in a commercial vehicle traveling from Niger State to Katsina, and the unfortunate incident unfolded in the vicinity of Zaria in Kaduna State.

The last known communication from the students to their families was when they reached Zaria on their journey to Katsina.
Malam Akilu Abubakar, the spokesperson for Al-Qalam University, confirmed the distressing incident on Thursday in Katsina.

Addressing the situation, Abubakar stated, “We wish to provide clarification on recent reports concerning two female students of our institution, who were kidnapped on Jan. 15, 2024.

The students were en route to Katsina from Niger State to resume their studies.”

He added, “They were passengers in a commercial vehicle at the time of the abduction, and the last contact with their families was established when they reached Zaria on their way to Katsina.”

Details regarding the circumstances of the abduction remain limited, as the incident did not occur within the university premises.

The university has been in contact with the families of the abducted students, who have sadly confirmed the distressing development.

Quoting the Vice-Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Prof. Nasiru Musa-Yauri, Abubakar shared, “The Vice-Chancellor extends his deepest sympathies to the families of the affected students and pledges unwavering support to help them navigate through this difficult situation.”

The spokesperson further conveyed the Vice-Chancellor’s prayer for the safety of the abducted students, earnestly hoping for their swift and secure release.
