In a landmark verdict, the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has sentenced three individuals – Boma Thompson, Emelike Mathias, and Daniel Thankgod – to death by hanging or lethal injection.

The judgement follows their conviction for conspiring to kidnap and subsequently murdering Chief Abbot Ogbobula in 2017.

The Police had initially arraigned four suspects on multiple charges, including conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping, conspiracy to murder, and murder of late Chief Abbot Ogbobula before the Rivers State High Court in 2017.

Delivering the judgment on Thursday, Justice Monina Danagogo convicted only the three men, while the fourth suspect, Goodnews Nwoka, was discharged and acquitted.

Chief Ogbobula was abducted in the Ahoada community of Rivers, where the convicted individuals held him hostage in the bush.

Tragically, he later succumbed to his fate and was buried in a shallow grave by his abductors.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the kidnappers, who, in turn, guided security operatives to the location where the remains of Ogbobula were exhumed.

Justice Monina Danagogo found the three suspects guilty on charges of conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping of Late Chief Abbot Ogbobula, and the murder of Ogbobula.

The court, in its verdict, sentenced them to death by hanging or lethal injection on Thursday.
