In a swift response to widespread reports on social media, the Federal Capital Police Command has refuted claims of a bomb explosion in Maitama, within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Contrary to the alarming speculations, authorities attribute the incident to an overheated metal refuse container activated under intense heat.
FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, issued a statement on Wednesday, emphasizing that preliminary findings indicate the explosion injured two refuse evacuators near a refuse dump outside the Bureau of Public Enterprise premises in Maitama, Abuja.
The injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention at Maitama General Hospital.
“The FCT Police Command urges members of the public to exercise caution and refrain from using metal refuse bins,” the statement read.
Instead, it recommends the use of plastic or rubber containers for waste disposal due to their reduced risk of incidents related to overheated metal refuse containers.
